Monday, October 22, 2018 -Chalmette, LA – St. Bernard Parish leaders held a ribbon cutting Tuesday afternoon at Sidney D. Torres Memorial Park (8301 W. Judge Perez Drive) in Chalmette. St. Bernard Parish school children and community members were excited for the grand opening of several new playgrounds, a fitness zone workout area and a concrete skate park. Hahn Enterprises, which served as the General Contractor for the project, added the upgrades to the park as part of a revitalization and beautification project funded by the St. Bernard Parish Government.
Hahn added several structures to the park, including 3 new age-appropriate, ADA certified Little Tikes playground structures. They also installed the parish’s first wheelchair accessible playground. Children in wheelchairs will now be able to play without having to get out of their wheelchairs. There is also a new swing area.
Parents and children alike will appreciate the new state-of-the-art, shock-absorbing rubber surfacing underneath the play spots. New shade structures and an ornamental steel fence surrounding the play areas add to the upgrades.
Fitness enthusiasts will enjoy Torres Park’s new Fitness Zone. The workout area has 12 stations, including a rowing machine, ab crunch station and pullup/pushup bars. The Fitness Zone also has its own shade structure and rubber surfacing.
Another exciting new addition is the Gridline Concrete Skate Park. It measures 150-feet by 50-feet and has an 8-foot-deep bowl with multiple ledges. This is a first of it’s kind skate park in St. Bernard Parish due to its size and the fact that the concrete was poured in place.
”This project at Torres Park, as well as the one Hahn recently completed at Violet Park, will play an important role in the revitalization of the adjacent neighborhoods and provide additional recreational outlets for our youth for years to come,” said St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis.
“We were honored to partner with St. Bernard Parish to make these upgrades to Torres Park,” said Tania Hahn, President of Hahn Enterprises. “Every playground Hahn builds is truly a labor of love because we know how much families are going to enjoy it, and we are so glad that St. Bernard neighbors now have this beautiful and safe place to play.”
“Historically, Torres Park has been an epicenter for community gathering for families,” Ronnie Alonzo, St. Bernard Parish CAO said. “Hahn Enterprises has been an absolute delight to work with over these past few months. Tania and her team have helped spearhead the redevelopment of an essential component of our community.”
